The holidays are here...and with them come turkey dinners (3 this year), cookies, candy, then the three ham dinners...in fact, the more family you have, probably the more food you are going to eat. Now, as you know, I'm calorie counting, but I'm not crazy! I enjoyed the crap out of my three Thanksgiving dinners, and starting tonight I'm going to do the same with my Christmas dinners! I made 13 kinds of Christmas cookies (to give away as gifts of course), and definitely tried all 13...3 or 4 times. Now don't go too over the top when the holidays roll around, or you'll end up back where you started...but here are some simple rules that will help you decide whether to indulge or take a pass.
1. If it is a holiday, birthday, anniversary, friend's birthday, wedding, divorce, anniversary of the day you got your running shoes, or any other special occasion, calories don't count.
2. If you are wearing your workout clothes, whether working out or not, you burn more calories. It's just the way it is. They make them special that way. The same goes for your running shoes.
3. Think light! Even if you're eating a pound of fudge, think of it as a light pound...like a pound of feathers! Then you will only be a pound of feathers heavier than you were before that pound of fudge. Think light, be light.
No really though, I'm trying to just be reasonable. I will eat as much as I want at my Christmas dinners and not think twice about it, but I will also workout, eat a healthy breakfast and lunch, and try to keep myself under control. I don't want calorie counting to rule my life, and when I choose to splurge, it is a choice, not a mess up or mistake. So...splurge today! Merry Christmas Eve!
